I'm looking for some input on my rock and sand clean up from old tank. If I just freshwater soak and rinse heavily will that kill the couple apistasia I had and also any chances of ich be gone? Thinking 2 day soak and rinse. Or should I do vinegar or peroxide. Idk. Thoughts?
Well went and got the tank today. Bought it from some lady an hour away. The first picture in the thread is it at her house. She was a crazy cat lady that had a cigarette hanging from her lip the whole time I broke the tank down. Tanks kinda old but it's super nice. 1\2" glass not a scratch in it. Stand is cool just covered in cigarette smoke n cat Idk what. I'll take pictures tomorrow. She offered the whole system in the sump. Looked crazy 10 differnt chambers of floss and bio balls. I passed lol. Was scarey looking! Idk how to clean this stand up. Probably just paint it Idk what else to do.
There were atleast 12 cats running around. And the ash on her cigarette was like an inch long. Felt like I was there for 10 hrs breaking it down even though I was done in 10 minutes. Still feel bad for what I gave her in money. Tank was probably atleast 2 grand new.
Get some good old fashion Fantastic. It's the only thing that washes nicotine off and works great on cat smells and spray. Even Fantastic with bleach is great in the blue bottle.
I'm in on the fantastic with bleach. Sounds like a fantastic idead! I went ahead and wiped the tank down real good with plain old bleach water. Than did a vinegar bath. Now it's sitting full of tap water! Smells are gone and it looks amazing! Can't wait for morning to see if I can save the stand! Gonna start a sump build tomorrow also. Dang I just did this a couple months ago lol. Oh well. My sump for the 150 won't fit so it's going with the tank. Since it was built specifically for that stand I would feel bad about it not staying with the tank anyways! Lol
Get them sticks growing I'll need a pack next month! Lol. Scarey part is I just got my light last month a lumentek-pro 240. It's 32" long. Uh yah. Can u say dim corners? 5 foot tank. But oh well guess I'll put acans on the ends. And other lower lighting corals.
I have a couple edges of the silicone coming lose in the tank and it's kinda yellowed so that's my debate right now. Ugh. I may do a few seems just to make myself happy. it's where the tank was cleaned alot I think.
Reseal them, you will be able to sleep at night. I have the same situation and am resealing the 180 this weekend. I had an older oceanic 150 that looked like that. Though I new better and went against my gut, I said, well it holds water.... 2 weeks later it blew. IME yellowing is either old seal, or someone fixed that one with non marine silicone.
It hasn't been resealed it's just the areas that got scraped alot on the edges of the silicone are worn. But I'll redo all the ones that look even a bit bad.
Well stand is cleaned up. Used car rim cleaner and a magic eraser. Uh yah nothing wanted to touch the crap. I'm starting to paint already though. Go go go go.
Here's some first day pictures! It held water but I cut out the 3 front seams cause they were peeling back just a bit. I'm stopping there though. Was able to put some nice cut edges in corners and seal over on the bottom. It will be fine this way. Gonna test Sunday afternoon! Trying to be done painting tonight so I can get into sump build tomorrow!
