How do you block unwanted alerts

How do you block those annoying question of the day alerts like gift giving idea, or how to start a gallery, or the secret santa gift exchange? I went through the entire preference list for alerts (seriously, why is there like 50 preferences for alerts) and not one does it mention any of those alerts.

If you want to stop receiving alerts like this from R2R please click this link, scroll down to the "Opt Out of Content Alerts and PMs" user group and click the "join user group" button.
