Greetings of the Day,

Been quite long am planning to upgrade my tank, my old tank the link attached here with, was just a trial to start reefing and to know the basics.

https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/member-tanks/184923-jacks-large-polyp-stony-have-large-soft-polyps-dominated-reef.html

This old tank has lots of flaws and errors so this time with a slow speed want to make a proper tank with proper planning.

This is what so far i have planned.

Display Tank: 48 X 24 X 21 Inches (approx 100 gallons) (6 X 24 X 19.5 overflow for bean animal)

overflow: full tank size overflow on the left side of the tank, with bean animal system.

sump: 36 X 24 X 21 with 3 partitions (attaching the picture for reference) (approx 60 Gallons)

return pump: what would be the advisable return pump for this tank size ?

display light : Zetlight 6600 full day with more blue lights, 2 nos of Kessils A350W for day light for 2 hours in afternoon

Flow : Gyre 130, LPS Dominated

Stand : Iron fabricated stand

Hood : closed hood

Salt : Red Sea Coral Salt Pro

water Change : 20 to 40 Ltrs Every alternate day, depending the size of tank i can fit in the sump area

skimmer : Reef Octopus XP 2000 INT or 3000 INT

ATO : Will get ATO automated for more stability this time

ATS : want to get Santa Monica but no links found and here its not available.

Controller : Not available at the moment but plans are to buy Neptune Apex Controller

any info left ? :D

Would like suggestions on the Scaping as well. i am planning scape with more branch type dead or artificial rocks with few live rocks to seed the tank. (any suggestions to use dead/artificial rocks is much appreciated)

How should i design my plumbing for the return pump, should i drill it ?

These are the drawings of my planning. Please suggest if anything needs to be changed.

a small update to the tank...

glass are here at LFS the tank build has started and ll be ready by tomorrow or day after.
the sand is also here.
have done the rock scaping and this time i am using all artificial rocks.

will be using all the old fiji live rocks in the sump's middle portion.

for now few pics are here...

for the scaping, this is the final scape and the rocks on the bottom are mostly for support will only keep one rock and rest would be hanging...

do let me know any suggestions if need the change... thank you

Soo here is the big update

2 days super hectic as due to some limitations have to complete the work in span of 2 days

Day 1

a) emptied the tank, corals and fishes to holding tank.
b) removed the old tank from its place
c) cleaned everything there
d) took 6 people to remove the 6 footer tank to its place and keep the sump underneath
e) did the plumbing and cure it for 2 hours
f) meanwhile organised the wires and equipements
g) filled in fresh water and set the pumps on full blast to check leaks and stuff

This was for Day 1

Starting with day 2

a) luckily there were no leaks in the plumbing so work was quite easy
b) emptied the freshwater and cleaned the tank
c) got the chilled new RO water, dumped it in
d) added salt to it (coral pro)
e) once the salt dissolved in the water added Prodibio bacteria for starting up the tank and ran it for 3 hours
f) meanwhile organised everything and got the place cleaned up, set the zetlights and other equipements
g) once the water came to desired temperature and salinity started shifting in the corals

here are few pictures of the evening when shifting corals was done and fishes were re introduced to their new home

Today is Day 3

Everything looks good as saw it in morning. No mortalities and corals are opening up...

things to do
a) do 80 liter water change i.e. 10% of the total volume
b) cover the tank from the sides

Thank you very much for looking in.
suggestions are most welcomed here.... feel free to comment :)

Thank you :) ll keep this updated...

the tank is running good and flow is also not an issue... all the corals are great and no issues... today morning i was surprised to find the algae in whole tank's substrate.... brown one...

So new substrate, a bunch of new rocks without beneficial bateria? Did you use your old water? I am not sure I miss anything but what I am seeing is your tank is starting a new cycle. Very risky for your live stock now, but hopefully I miss something

@ngvu1 yes the substrate is new. regarding the rocks the old rocks were given quick fresh water bath and moved to sump and the display is all new artificial rocks. the corals are all from old tank. around 100 liters of old water was used from older tank.

regarding the benificial bacteria yes i use prodibio bio digest and biotim according to their instruction on day one. and a local friend suggested me to redose it. so yesterday switched off skimmer for 12 hours and dosed the batcteria.

i know its risky but didnt have anyother option than to transfer the corals to new tank.

now the problem is here how to solve ?

What i am seeing is "new tank syndrome". That should go away once your tank is stable. Since you don't have a lot, if any SPS, you might be able to get away with this. I don't really know your resource availability so it is hard to say what you should do besides, just let the nature takes it course. Do you measure the water and what are the parameters like?
Anyway, good luck and I hope more reefers will charm in and give you more input
