Here are some better pics I just took. There is a definite sponge and then is that a sponge next to it as well outlining the rock in a white film?looks lke a sponge to me.

Agree on sponge. Its a poriferan type known as clatharina and can be invasive. best removal is with a dental pick or small crochet needle.

Hard to tell could be sponge could be some sort of bacteria maybe even some sort of algae. When I tried to get a pic front on you could tell. It’s translucent. Only from the side you can see.
