I have had a long tentacle anemone for over a year. He was thriving until recently, when I returned from a two week vacation. As per the photo, his tentacles were shrunken and he was half the size. I immediately tested the tank and did a water change. Aside from salinity and calcium being high (1.030 and 470 respectively) the other tank parameters were within range. I believe his health was related to my white lights not working while I was gone (although my blue lights were).

For the past week, he has remained mostly closed, and last night was barely visible deep in the sand, completely capped over himself. This morning, he has moved to the front of the tank, and is open, although his tentacles are still shrunken.

Aside from my concern about his health, I am now concerned about the broken shell he has chosen to attach over (see pic). Should I do anything about this? Do you have any recommendations for the other issues?

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

I would say that now that you’ve corrected the salinity he will be back to normal very soon. He looks pretty healthy otherwise. 1.030 may not seem like a big different but from a salt concentration perspective it is quite significant.
