A couple of updates on the new build! The new RODI system is up and running. Went with a 5 stage plus the choromine carbon addon and a booster pump. Producing 0 TDS so everything looks good!

Decided against the Nero 3 and went with a single(for now) tunze 6040. I love the idea of having control over everything AI from a single app but the reliability of the Neros are what pushed me towards the tunze which should last for a very long time. Also decided to run the IM Aquashield UV. Planning on adding the UV from the start and waiting on the skimmer for several months. I will run an Intank caddy on the other overflow with Pinky floss, seachem matrix, and....? Maybe Chemi pure blue. Not sure if and when I might need this as it looks like with is more for phosphate control but could help with ph stabilization. Any suggestions on adding it at the beginning or waiting?

Decided to go with Tropic Marin pro as well for salt based on numerous recommendations.

Live rock and cycle start to come in the next 3ish weeks!

Honestly - if you have TBS live rock coming, I would wait on putting any matrix or chemi pure in and let the rock do its work. Just my opinion. I can't tell you what adding the live rock did to my tank and how things just settled in. I only run UV, filter floss and handful of Auquaforest Life Bio Fil in my InTank caddy. Simple - parameters are super stable, and corals are growing out nicely.

Big updates! Picking up 40lbs of TBS Live rock tomorrow! I built a simple control board out of a large kitchen cutting board and have everything plugged into the XP8. I'll take pictures later tonight and update tomorrow after the rock goes in. Super excited to finally kick the tank off!

Got the Tampa Bay Saltwater live rock in the tank and and all I can say is wow! Tons of life including some beautiful red tunicates! Tank is now up and running and will "cycle" for several weeks before adding fish. Once parameters are stable. I'm lucky enough to be close enough to drive and pick up TBS rock so die off should be fairly minimal but I'm sure there will be some regardless.

Parameters are stable and bacteria is doing it's job in processing ammonia. Had a small spike with some cloudy water day after adding the live rock presumably to some small die off and has been solid ever since. I've spot fed the bristle star several times with some frozen mysis and the bacteria is processing the excess quickly. Also notice lots of pods in the tank already which I'll take as a good sign! decided to add a bag of matrix in the caddy to prep for the quarantine tank. First soft corals going in late next week! Aqua SD had a great memorial day sale with lots of frags 1-20$ so decided to grab a few! Going to let the tank stabilize for several weeks after that before adding fish.

New coral frag list:
  • Aussie crown leather
  • Blue nova zoa
  • electric red rim blasto (We will see how this one goes...)
  • Firework clove polyps
  • plum vine duncan
  • gsp (going to try and get it to grow on the back glass)
Current planned stocking list:
  • 2 Ocellaris Clowns
  • Midas Blenny
  • Yellow watchman goby
  • Melanurus wrasse
  • Orchid dottyback (maybe depending on how bioload looks)

Sounds like it's coming along. So exciting!

Gonna need some pics as well.
