I am interested to setting up a finding nemo aquarium set up for my daughter. Is it okay to keep dory fish and 2 nemo fishes in 55 gallon tank? I am planning to use my cascade external filter for filtration. I have around 16 years experience in keeping freshwater and now thinking about doing a nemo tank. Thanks.

You might get more visibility and responses if you post your question in the Reef Aquarium Discussion forum or the New to Saltwater & Reef Aquariums forum.

This forum is dedicated to Aquarium Controller systems, which automate the monitoring and control of equipment on an aquarium, and not intended for general discussions of livestock.

I would not recommend a tank that size to keep a blue hippo tang. I have a blue hippo in my 120 gallon tank and in about a year or 2 in will outgrow my tank and ill have to rehome it. A 55 gallon tank is not suitable for that fish.

+1 to this..

most, of the "finding nemo" fish do outgrow a 55G quickly. not to mention they need a decently cycled/aged tank.

The "Nemo" fish (known as clown fish) will be fine for their entire lives in that tank. The "Dory" fish (blue 'hippo' tang) will out grow that tank within a year or so (can grow to 12 inches!). If you do decide to go ahead anyways then get a small one (1-2 inches) and be prepared to either rehome it to someone with a large enough tank or have a plan to upgrade in the not too distant future to a much larger tank. Tangs have certain dietary requirements that you should familiarize yourself with also. Clowns are omnivorous as well and require a mostly meaty diet but also require vegetation which can easily be provided with omnivorous pellets.
