Tropic marin All for reef is calcium formate with trace elements. I was wondering what's the differences between calcium acetate, calcium formate, calcium gluconate and calcium lactate. I think seachem use calcium gluconate. Can I use calcium lactate as alternative since it's easily available where I live?

It is possible. Do use caution and check to see if anything else may be negatively affected.

The difference willb e in the degree of organic carbon dosing effect. Formate has very little usable energy so the effect is small. The others have much more, and the larger the organic, the bigger the effect. Calcium lactate will have a pretty substantial organic carbon effect, which may be OK, but recognize that for significant doses, it will tend to reduce nitrate and pH, and to some extent, O2.

Salifert uses calcium acetate in its All in One product.
