Idaho grape monti as we call it around here. Purple grows fast. No matter what I did it kept growing. Until we sat our orange crush next to it. Needless to say if you have a coral you want gone, Orange Crush it. Bad side is any thing that falls in it or within 4" of it will get eaten.

I've had my fair share of pests and blue cloves are currently taking over my tank, however monti eating nudi are the only "pest" I had to give up on beating and remove all food sources=montipora, frag what I could save, brush daily with toothbrush and still managed to get them in my QT/frag tank. They are very efficient predators and are the reason I've switched to aquacultured vs wild coral.

I've had these too, it's a long battle, a broken heater in my qt tank solved the problem for me though.

Coralline algae is a top pest IMO. It's nice on the rocks, but inhibits the proper function of power heads, constantly covers glass almost overnight, and is pita to remove from acrylic without scratching it.

Hydroids. They come in many forms, like the tube-like hydroid that glows green under blue lighting, the fuzzy brown colonial one, jellyfish type, the white stringy type (Digitate)...

There's probably more but the ones I'm currently fighting is the "tube-like" hydroid (planning to expoxy over them) and hydroid digitate. I beat the colonial type (I used the watery superglue), and the jellyfish type (died off on it's own). I liked the jellyfish type since it looks like tiny jellyfish swimming around the tank. The digitate seems to stay in the refugium (I suppose more filteration in the 'fuge?)

My WIFE,lol. She is always yelling at me to buy more wavy stuff like gsp or xenia, when i am sps dominate. she hates my sticks and lps. "they don't do anything but sit there". On WC day she complained about coralline on the back wall and says the house smells like the fish store. I cant get rid of my enormous bangaii's because thats her favoritte fish. I had to buy a secret SD card so the dslr dosent have any fish pictures on it. I can't get a harlequin because "I love those little starfish everywhere" OH and a few years back when I left for Vegas and was still manually dosing she dosed three days worth of alk and cal fifteen minutes before I got home, so I came home to a cloudy tank and one emergency WC.

The biggest pests in my tank are the corals that I knowingly bought that were way overpriced and 1 month later a local reefer sells the same size frag for 1/3 the price I paid:( dunno about you folks but I never look at that coral the same and suddenly it becomes not nearly as attractive as the day I impulse bought it:(

And my dang engineer goby:(

My pest is a orange spotted goby. Since day one he has been making a sand storm in my tank. Anytime I put anything on the sand he covers it up by morning. I have to clean my pumps once a week from him. I have post him for free, asked stores if they want it free nothing. I have even thought of putting him in the sump but I can't catch this fish to save my life.

My worst pest was my mantis shrimp. He hitch hiked on a rock and is responsible for the death of 10+ of my fish. I only saw him once, the day I got my LR in my tank. (I thought he was cool). Ever since then I only heard the dreading clicking every night to occasionally wake up to one less fish. Needless to say, I won that battle 3 years later!

Ode to coral pests

When I started in the hobby all fresh and brand new
These mushrooms caught my eye with their lovely shade of blue

Oh blue mushrooms you were such a treasure
Watching you grow gave me such pleasure

DSC01976ARW.jpg

But space was limited and you didn't like to share
You just kept killing corals you just didn't care
:squigglemouth:
You stung my favia you stung by blue tort
You stung a montipora like it was some kind of sport

DSC01983ARW.jpg

I tried to remove you with tweezers and pluck you all out
But you shrunk down and hid and won the first bout
I shot boiling water injections into your core
I may have won that battle but you won the war

I tried removing the rock hoping you would die
But you lived for months in darkness I don't know why
:eek:oh:

I tried zapping you with electricity but you still wouldn't go
By now It was clear, you were running this show

So I waved the white flag and gave up the fight
:canada:
And let you live in my tank just please stay on the right

DSC01978ARW.jpg

So live on blue mushroom my stubborn little pest

At least I hope to win a frag in this great coral quest

Pocillopora hands down. They engage in polyp bail out and grow everywhere. The Texas Trash of SPS corals.

I am unsure, it was like a gray/blue color. The slasher not a smasher. He is MIA now, I haven't heard a click in awhile.
I absolutely love my mantis. Hes a peacock mantis and has his own tank to himself though so its a whole different story. They have some crazy personalities
