What's the point of the long hold on the button so that there is a 3 min countdown after adding the reagent? If I don't do the long hold, it measures the phosphate immediately and I don't have to wait an additional 3 min.

if you dont follow the instructions then you can't be sure of the results, then you can't blame anyone if any problems down the road. But if it works out in the long run, you can tell yourself that you were right.

Have you tried to do one with long hold and with short push? Is there a difference?

Yeah, I've made that same mistake. Then did it right, got the same reading. Typical Hanna.
I’ve made the mistake a few times and the each time the reading was different but not by much

i've made the mistake a few times and there might have been a slight difference. the difference was prob within the accuracy of the tester.
