Looks like foraminiferans and are harmlessHello, this is my first hammer. Could someone tell me if these little pink protrusions are part of the hammer, or a pest? They look like they have little tentacles.
Possibly benthic foraminiferans:
It looks really close to that. That might be it, thanks. If they are harmless I will leave them alone, because from the photos I see online they are actually quite pretty.Think I found it. . . pink Homotrema rubra???
Try miniacina miniaceaIt looks really close to that. That might be it, thanks. If they are harmless I will leave them alone, because from the photos I see online they are actually quite pretty.
Haha, yeah, it's a Lorax reference - and yeah, assuming these feel hard/solid rather than soft:Old thread:
Red vermetid snail looking things on my frogspawn coral?
Hey, so i just got this coral from my LFS and it has some red things on it, is it just algae or something else?frowww.reef2reef.com
And the Coralax even chimed in (I really hope your name is a Lorax reference @ISpeakForTheSeas, otherwise my joke will make no sense):
Looks like a benthic foraminiferans to me (possibly Miniacina miniacea or a branching morphotype of Homotrema rubrum to me) - harmless filter feeders.
I haven't felt them yet. What if they feel soft?Haha, yeah, it's a Lorax reference - and yeah, assuming these feel hard/solid rather than soft:
Then that'd indicate something like a macroalgae or sponge (both of which would likely be harmless); I doubt they'll feel soft though.I haven't felt them yet. What if they feel soft?
