I upgraded my RSK 600 from AC to DC (or was it the other way around?) with the new sensors and stuff. It's now louder than before. I've gotten used to it though, and now I only hear it when it stops (if you know what I mean) :thinking-face:

Im curious, what's the benefit of removing the wiper?
FWIW, I removed the skimmer wiper (do not like the concept) and used saran wrap and silicone to make a "plug" for that slot. If and when I would like to remove the plug, it isn't an issue since the silicone is bonded to the saran wrap and not the skimmer lid.

I have the same RSK 300 skimmer in my Gen 2 625 reef. Mine got a lot quieter when I did 3 three things...

1. cleaned it thoroughly in hot freshwater with some vinegar (which I now do every 6 months)
2. built a homemade skimmer stand out of PVC
3. raised the water level in the sump (due to the skimmer stand)

I still wouldn't call it a quiet skimmer, but it's definitely gotten better. Hope that helps.
