Controller all the way, mine is an apex. The original question was could it save your tank at certain times. My controller will turn off my lights if it gets above a certain temperature, so that the lights don't add to the issue. My heaters only go on if it drops to a certain temperature but turns them off at the power source if it rises to a second temperature. Dosing pumps are only on for a specified amount of time, same can be said about all sorts of things.

The last piece is setting alerts for things like pH, power, float valves etc etc. Knowing your water level is too high, too low, etc is a great alert for when you are not home.

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
