Refugium mud

What is everyone's in put on using it, currently using it on my eshopps refugium but I made a 20 gallon refugium and wonder if I should use it, Or just use substrate?

I use both, the mud has some benefits in terms of nutrients and in a refugium setting can provide anaerobic zones for bacteria, but I've seen fuges that don't use it and they and the display are successful ... I usually use miracle mud and a layer of sand above it lol about 4 inches deep

I have mineral mud in my 5g refugium with a dusting of substrate over top to minimize dusting. Copepods seem to love it, I've stopped feeding them a and they're still multiplying like crazy and I have a leopard wrasse that is constantly grazing them in the DT.

Thanks I have some in my current sump, wonder how I can speedster the mud from the substrate
