I have never had a tank with a sump or skimmer. I have a 65 total gal tank, Red Sea Reefer. The display is 54 and the sump is 11. I believe the skimmer section maintains 8" constant. I don't really even know where to begin. I definitely want best bang for the buck and I would like it to be quiet.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Shane

You will find so many opinions here. I stick with what I know works, and have always used Avast Marine. The PSK-1000's are reliable sicce pumps, and building it yourself really helps you get a grasp on the fundamentals of what a skimmer is and does. I enjoy the pegleg recirculating CS1, as it allows for a flux in your water level, and is forgiving in that sense. Plus I'm a sucker for local and American Made, so 2 birds with 1 stone.
