Did you set up your Radion with a par meter or are you just winging it?
I do have the par meter that connects to the Apex. I used it for initial set up; mainly for checking the limits of the Radion spread. I have since added a XR15.

Gotcha... I'm in the 300par range, but still seem to burn stuff....frustrating
Hmmmm. I find that odd as my pars for some of the sps frags are much higher. Radions currently at 85%. I dont have any burning on the tips as of yet; although I have in past tanks. I do have STN from the base on 3 frags, but not gonna chase the problem when all others seem perfectly healthy and growing. I feed heavy and skim heavy.

Yeah, I agree...odd and something else must be going on in there. I'm losing what little hair I have left over these frags :D

What do bored angelfish do all day? Pick on the longspine. He gets so upset when they do that. ;)

Update: The trials of keeping sps... want to share some ugly. My torts have been slow stn. If you check out the second photo closely the polyps live on! I don’t think I’ve seen that before. Anyways most other frags appear healthy and growing but sps in my experience have a delayed response to subtle shifts that lead to poor water chemistry. What we see today probably began a long time ago. And any remedy I apply now, will also take time to see results.

I finally ditched the api test kit and went with Salifert. My PO4 is 0.5!!! and my NO3 at 25! Corrective action I plan to do a series of water changes daily perhaps 10% continuously until the stn reverses and simply put, I have to feed less. High PO3 and high NO3 is the easiest to correct, so I think I’m lucky. I regret adding so many chromis’ as they are so fast and swarm the food, the Regal is too slow but i try to keep him fat with targeted feedings.

I’m running this large external skimmer rated up to like 250 and it should keep up better with my feedings, but I struggle to really dial it in.

Dang...what else do you have for filtration?
I just run the skimmer for export, and a small refugium in the sump with a small dsb, some siporax, matrix for bio filtration with about 30lbs live rock in the main display. As you can see from the picture i ended up installing a UV. Behind the skimmer is my kalk reactor. To the right is my ozone generator that gets fed into the skimmer. The calcium reactor you see is actually double chambered with another same size canister you cant see. Behind the calc reactor is the ATO container. I dont use socks or rollers for mechanical filtration. I use carbon passively in a mesh bag in my sump.

I had pulled my socks because the skimmer and socks together were stripping the tank too much with my low load. Now that I have more fish, I've gone back them and all seems well. Are you totally against them or just don't want to rely on changing them?

I simply use a small piece of filter material at the top first section where the water begins its fall through the sock. I can clean it by hand quickly with a few squeezes under fresh water. I dont see a lot of difference in my tank and it saves a lot of cleaning, exchanging of socks. The rollers look nice, but overkill in my eyes. I also experience my skimmer going crazy when i replace the socks for new ones or newly washed ones which floods the skimmer.

Interesting. Probably close to the same... though I see my socks get way dirtier than when I used floss. Convinced me that they catch more.
I had the same issue with washed socks... rinse them a good 3 times after the main wash now, that helped a lot.
I agree on the rollers, but a lot of reefers are liking them!

Update… ended up with red bugs but eradicated with interceptor spectrum. Still low kh, but otherwise fine. Odd STN on a couple pieces still. The Venustus has outgrown the Regal. Had to get rid of my long spine urchin as it developed a taste for sps. Most of the frags starting to settle in well and finally showing steady growth.

Got the Multibar from Biota. It is tiny. Perhaps an inch. So far after 10 days, he eats hatched baby brine but not much else. Masstick negative, TDO xsmall negative. Adult brine is too large to swallow but I have seen him pick at them to spit out. It is eating something as his belly is never thin; and I’m pretty sure it grew from when I first got it.

Regal seems to be experiencing a growth spurt. But has a weird color blemish behind the eye on both sides. I hope she grows out of it.

Still some STN here and there, still no real polyp extension. :confused-face: But overall happy! :) Some pieces have grown so fast, while others havent grown much at all.
