To add amphipods or not. That is the question. Friend or Foe?

What do you all think about intentionally adding amphipods? I currently have none. I'll have wrasses, but not an issue with overpopulation eventually.

Amphipods do consume copepods, so they can decrease your pod population, or so I have read.

So friend or foe? Add or do not add.

I personally wouldn't pay to add them; you almost surely will get them eventually if you add coral. But, if you'd like to watch tiny shrimp in your tank, then go for it!

You will get them naturally by coral frag transfer . Coral dips do not kill amphipod eggs ( or any eggs for that matter ) so if your supplier has them eventual you will also. Amphipods only will eat a copepod in extreme situations starvation situation. 99.9% of home reef aquariums are fed well that this is nearly never an issue

I had a zoa frag that was struggling for a bit and one night I saw there were amphipods crawling in and out of the struggling frag. The other zoa frags right beside it remained fine, I think the amphipods really just decimated what was left of the dying zoa

Usually beneficial. I've heard anecdotal reports of them eating coral, algae, or pods. My last system had tons of copopods and amphipods did the amphipods eat copopods maybe, they didnt eat my corals or much algae as far as I can tell. They did go after uneaten food and fish poop.
