It would also be a good idea to get a pointer stick and a retractable clip to hold the camera. The pointer gives you something to help stabilize herself when doing macro shots so that you aren't grabbing onto the reef which your hands. And the clip makes sure you don't lose your camera if you accidentally let go of it.

Something like these:

I have been using a GoPro 4 and 3 and 2 for years and years haha I love those cameras. I made a stick with pvc and the bike frame mount which really helps with diving. I recently upgraded to the collapsable stick. This helps a ton with clarity and detail for the video/ pictures. They can focus pretty darn macro.
Here is a video I took on my gopro

The most important thing is getting a high quality red dome filter that slides over the lens of the gopro. It makes a world of difference.

Like salty.reefer said get a red filter for your GoPro if your going deeper. I've used my hero 4 many times and love it. Sure you don't have zoom and macro kind of sucks but it works and it's small.

I did a bunch of research and found a Gopro 4 Hero Silver at my local BJ's for $249 new in the box...... I am going snorkeling in Belize in two weeks.
Me too! but not so soon. Please post some of your pictures so we can see how that GoPro turns out. Also, so I know what I'll be swimming into!

The ones I posted are from Ambergris Caye on the hero 4 FYI [emoji6]
A few more that I found on my phone from Belize

All of those are very shallow depth and no filter other than the Trumpet Fish. I'm sure with some touch up they would look better.

Buying my second 7D MKII had me sleeping on the couch for a couple days LOL
ROFL ... You're hysterical ... way past ya ... I already have 2 7D MII's ... what's got me sleeping in the garage is the lens I just bought Canon EF 100 - 400mm f/4.5 5.6 I decided 3rd party lens just don't cut it in some cases. I should just have my paycheck made out to Adorama ... What can I tell you, just love photography LOL

I agree, their 70-200 is an awesome lens it one of my favorites. Almost all of Canons L series lenses are awesome. Among the one we just mentioned I have the 100 L macro, 200 L, 15 L. I guess an individual falls into one of to camps Canon YAY! or Nikon. I guess from Reef aquariums to Canon photography none of which is inexpensive, guess I'll always be in the preverbal dog house LOL

If you want to work for NatGeo and want super awesome shots -> DSLR with housing = 1000s $$
OR
If you're just getting into it and want decent shots:
GoPro HERO5 (that's what I did) with red filter and MACRO filter (Flip 4, Flip5 is coming out soon) & dive lights (D11V 50ish bucks each on amazon) on a tray.

While I continue to research, please enjoy some of my diving photos from a recent trip. Are those all acropora...

**most of the above are with a hero4 silver and some with a hero2 silver
Hero5 Black has a RAW capture and will result in better pics.
None of those above pics are with any sort of filters.... Google gopro drive filters and see what a difference they make to underwater footage.
In terms of GoPro Macro, I have no experience, but some of the pics I have seen of different members and other scuba forums are quite good actually.

My 2 Canon 7D MKII's are for land only, I wish I work for NatGeo I'd be in my glory! My GoPro Hero 4 with filters do a wonderful job for me underwater! Yes, way ahead I have 2 dive light merged together since most of my diving is done off the coast of NY/NJ in wreck valley. As for the GoPro Hero 5 I'm going to get one for myself as a Christmas present ... Can't just have one ... Two is even better! LOL

Now that's what I'm talking about! Awesome rig for taking both video and photo while blowing bubbles! Can't be beaten for 700ish :)
