I have a type of algae that is wiry hair algae that grows extremely fast, it is red and it almost feels spongy when I start scraping it off. It will start growing over the base of my SPS and really hampers growth especially around the base. Anyone can help me identify and suggestions on how to get rid of it would be really appreciated.

That almost looks like a bryozoan?

I would remove it by hand and hope for the best.

Looks like red gracilaria. I think emeralds will eat that stuff up. There may be some snails that’ll keep it in check if it’s not too long.
