Whats the best protein skimmer for $200-$300?

I don't know if it's the best, but my ole Reef Octopussy just keeps chugging away.

I'm happy with my reef octopus nwb 150. The one bit of advise is that they work so much better if you have a ato. Without a ato my sea clone skimmer was better. Now that I have it it's like a whole new skimmer. I'm sure most of the mentioned skimmers are the same.

I've had my reef octopus for 12 years. Back then it was swc and reef octopus. This year I replaced both pumps on it. If the new style are as good as my oldie goldie I would recommend

the vertex is better build then my Sro-2000 and bubble Magnus 5. It's more solid build then the reef octopus.
 

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
