I’m curious how potassium chloride came to fruition as a coral dip. Who tried it first, and figured out it worked?

Is Potassium chloride more commonly used over Bayer for SPS corals nowadays?

I use KCL. No idea on the origins. 2 tablespoons per gallon. I used to use coral rx but found it to be harsh on acros after shipping at times.
