Who has experience with these brands and models?

I am evaluating my options. It’s for a Cade 1500 S2 build. Why should I spend twice as much for one of the more widely used and generally liked brands? What am I sacrificing? They suck? BRS seemingly likes the FC-280 In one of there vids.

I used the 240dc simplicity skimmer for a few months.
Very easy to use and worked well.
Price was on point.
Was too loud for me (in my bedroom) and am now using an octopus regal 150s.
Twice as much, easily twice as good IMHO but for the money, the simplicity is a great skimmer.

I have no experience with those models, but if you are looking for a budget skimmer, may I suggest the

MagTool Aquarium in-Sump DC Protein Skimmer, with Controllable DC Pinwheel Pump for Up to105-135Gal Reef Tank (N130 Plus) from Amazon

There are other sizes available, but this is the size I have, and for less than half the price for similar, better known brands, it works really well, although it is my first and only protein skimmer and do not have experience with the others to compare it to. it is VERY quiet that if didn't see it working, I wouldn't even know that it is on. After about 2 weeks, the attached pic show the results.

Thanks for these replies. I get the feeling this is an area where somewhat of a deal can be found without sacrificing too much functionality/production.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
