Curious as to what may be the effect of these? I've never tested for either.

How high?

Tin seems to sometimes come from plastics, such as tubing. It is added as a stabilizer.

Zinc comes from many things, including metal parts that are treated with zinc to reduce corrosion.

Well, zinc is required at some concentration and toxic at higher levels. High enough will kill many organisms, but I don't know that it gets that high in most situations.

Tin is not a needed metal, but often arises and can get to toxic levels in the worst cases. it is very hard to judge tin toxicity since concentration is only a part of the story. Chemical form is an especially big issue with it, IMO, and none of use have the tools to determine that.

Neither seem as high as folks who actually report problems, so I would not get too worried about them as long as they do not rise further. Tin is more of a concern than the zinc, IMO.

I wo0uld double check for and metal parts in or above the water, such as hose clamps.

Probably zinc in something that you are feeding or dosing.

Tin can come from plastics on cheap pumps (usually knock offs), buckets, plumbing, etc. The egg crate could be a cheap plastic that has some tin.

That said…I use this w/o issues:

Designed for high-purity applications, Tygon® Sanitary Silicone Tubing's ultra-smooth, inner bore can reduce the risk of particle entrapment and microscopic buildup during sensitive fluid transfers. In-house analysis of the inner surface of Tygon® Sanitary Silicone Tubing compared to other silicone tubing shows that it is up to three times smoother. Additionally, this smoother fluid path facilitates complete system cleaning and sterilization. Utilizing a platinum-curing process, Tygon® Sanitary Silicone Tubing eliminates the concern of extraction often encountered when alternative curing methods are used. It has also been fully characterized using the ISO 10993 standards, reducing user cost and time associated with process validation. Ideal for food and beverage dispensing.

  • Platinum-cured silicone
  • Working pressure @ 73°F: 18 psi (16 psi @ 320°F)
  • Minimum bend radius: 1/4"
  • Vacuum rating @ 73°F: 29.9" Hg (29.9" Hg @ 320°F)
  • Fully tested to ISO 10993 standards
  • Durometer hardness (shore A): 50
  • Temperature range: -112°F to 400°F
  • Meets FDA, 3-A & NSF standards
