FOODS AND FEEDING – The South African Butterflyfish consumes algae and benthic invertebrates in the wild. In captivity, it should be provided with a supply of algae to browse on throughout the day. It should also be offered a varied diet for carnivores, omnivores, and herbivores including mysid shrimp, brine shrimp, crustacean flesh, and frozen aquarium fare.
REEF COMPATIBILITY – With caution.
CAPTIVE CARE – The South African Butterflyfish prefers and environment with plenty of swimming room, several places to hide, and lower temperatures in the range of 64-70 F (18-21 C). This species readily adapts to captivity and will accept a variety of aquarium foods.
