SCIENTIFIC NAME - Halichoeres melanarus

COMMON NAME – Hoeven’s Wrasse, Melanarus Wrasse

SIZE – 4.5 in (11.5 cm)

MIN. AQUARIUM SIZE - 50 gal (189 L)

FOODS AND FEEDING - Should be fed a variety of high quality marine meaty foods. Will also eat other crustaceans and some invertebrates.

REEF COMPATIBILITY – With Caution

CAPTIVE CARE - This is a peaceful fish that does best with other peaceful fish. It can be kept with other wrasses. It requires a 3 inch sand bed to hide in when frightened and to sleep in at night. It will eat fireworms and pyramidellid snails, along with feather dusters, small ornamental shrimp, tubeworms and flatworms. It may also eat parasites off of other fish. Wrasses are known jumpers so the aquarium top should be covered.

Small shrimp and small snails they are predadors of (Sexy Shrimp, Small Stomatella etc).

They wont touch your larger shrimp and snails though.

My pair while acclimating! Hard to get good pictures of them for me in the tank - they always seem to be on the move! Absolutely great fish!

What's the best chemical to use for this fish during qt? Do they not take well to any specific medications?
