Forgot I even had this! Everything is looking pretty good! Alk is up a bit at 10... which I think should be lower due to the vodka and vinegar dosing, but cal, mag, sal all look good. Only thing ticked is some SPS. Pretty recent pic..

Hey there! Been reading the threads on the big resetting/ @brandon429 and stuff like that and just want to make sure the proper way I should go about it

1) my goal would be to get rid of the vermid snails and lower my 200+ nitrates. I got some bumblebee snails and they might be doing something, but removing rock obviously would be way faster

2) Rather than reuse the rock in dt, I could use pretty much dead rock from my sons tank, that he really never fully set up or put fish, but it was sitting in salt water.

3) my main question I guess is ***I know most people reuse their live rock and it’s the whole reason the hard reset works. BUT since I have quite a bit in my sump and Fuge currently, in addition to what’s in the display tank, would that take the place of the rock that’s in the display tank… so I could use that “new” rock?
I hesitate to even put in any of the old rock from the display tank back, since it has the stupid snails on it and rinsing the sand should have a huge result on lowering nitrates/is partly cause?
———————

I currently have a 180 display tank, basement probably 50-75 gallons of water in that, 75 gallon fuse, (2)30 gallon frag tanks, and a 40 gallon frag tank.

All connected it is about 330 gallons pretty much total system volume

————————
I can turn off the return pump flow into one or both 30g frag tanks (where I plan on putting the fish and remaining coral), and or turn off the one drain into the 40 gallon frag tank

then do the work on the display tank

then after finishing, turn return back on for whole system

Whew~! Basically "done"

still have the pipe support in and stuck in some more live rock, etc from fuge in DT to make sure enough liveness to not cycle or anything weird lol
more sand to rinse and add but not putting in as much as I had before
added back the other 2 PH in addition to the gyres that are set low.. prob could be happy just with them turned up, but already have the other 4 ph wired up and all so too much trouble atm to remove

-----------------------------------
so
----------------------------------
I still only have the 3 fish (in frag tank currently) and thinking about moving them back to big tank. But... obviously I am getting more fish, so didn't know if order was super important?
current fish -
4-5" Purple Tang
3" Royal Gramma
3" Flame Angelfish

Planned "new" fish
2 Designer Clowns - Maine Blizzard?
4-6? Banggai Cardinalfish to school - 2 kinds? ~ or maybe Firefish instead?
Starry Blenny ? - better than lawnmower?
Yellowhead jawfish - ? - or Midas Blenny - ?
Maybe another tang, maybe wrasse, goby?

thoughts?

Little bit better pictures of the rock work. Pretty happy with it overall. There’s one piece on the right bottom that I have just sitting there, just for bacteria growth from my fuge, and I’m either going to remove it or have to figure out a better spot.

so diatoms happening... more on rocks and not a ton on sand. Turned down the intensity on Noopsyche k7 Pro v2

Was thinking of adding my 2 extras to make 6 total, but not sure and will prob wait now just cus might make algae worse? Need to add back in snails and crabs or buy more..

Holy CRAP!!!??? Got my ATI Lab results back and .... welp... still have nitrates!!!!!!!!!!

nitrate533.9mg/l

Like a TON! I've been getting ~50 on the salifert test recently, and before the reset, it was 200 on it and confirmed at 2 fish stores...

Sent off on the 23rd of Nov, got results today and this is AFTER the rip clean??

Tank is looking really good!!
Thanks! Def better than it was!

Just did testing after water change and all yesterday and only one giving me issues is maybe ALK

It is a bit varying between the salifert and hanna but still "safe" either way..

BUT good news FINALLY on nitrates!

I did a salifert and came up as 100+ still of course lol... but then I did a 1/2 tank and 1/2 rodi and it was between 25-50 reading whereas before it was still pretty dark/between 75-100

So I did a hanna nitrate test and it came up as 75... but NOT blinking 75 like usual.

So I did a half and half with it and came to 63.5!!! x2 = 135.. high but not AS HIGH lol!

So def making progress!
