activated charcoal

In a full, stable Triton Method tank, do Triton recommend activated carbon? Where in the sump would it be? In earlier documents, it seems to be there, after the skimmer, but later documents don't mention it. Some earlier Triton method docs also say some form of phosphate control is needed...
