c02 scrubbbing

Has anyone else tried using sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to scrub c02 in their tank via attached to the protein skimmer. Saw another user on here used NaOH in liquid form attached to his protein skimmer. Lots of articles on soda lime increasing PH. Curious if this can be achieved with sodium...
