Have always had API test kits for water tests. No problems with them and been a successful reefer. Starting new tank and its been cycling 6 weeks nitrates visable, but the nitrites keep showing as .5-1 ppm. Is it possible the kit could being throwing false negatives? Ammonia is zero and nitrates are 5.

hey this means you are cycled above, yes the test kits may show nitrite but its no longer factored in reef tank start dates. in all the cycling threads we've ran, by six weeks its ready to carry a decent starting bioload.

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
