I remember seeing my first giant clam in the late 90’s and wanted one so badly. Well life took over and now when the time was right, I have made my dream tank into reality... 180 gallon display and 280 gallon total volume. I took that step today and added a Derasa Clam. Drip acclaimed it then burped it. It opened almost as soon as it went in the tank. Wish me luck and I am living the dream ... finally :)

My clam is moving around a bit and just wondering from all of you that have experience with them. Is it common they shift from a vertical position to around a 45 degree angle and can the foot support that?

It's probably just adjusting to the flow or light in your tank. How much flow is it getting and do you know how much PAR it is receiving in that spot?

The flow and the lighting vary in intensity throughout the day so it’s never rally one speed or intensity throughout the day. I have good flow but it’s not directly blasted by any pump. 2 mp40’s and a gyre. Par is anywhere from 140’s to 180’s depending on the time of day.

how do you burp a clam? Am hoping to pick one up this week at reef stock!
I held mine in the palm of my hand and rotated it in every direction when it’s put into the tank. The goal is to get it to release any air inside it. Did that for 2 or 3 minutes.

I’m sure it’s just trying to get adjusted to the new tank. I would give it some time before moving it around too much. I’ve had a clam for about a year now and its doing great. They are surprisingly resilient, so I wouldn’t worry too much

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
