I’ve been combatting a green hairy algae issue in my 75gallon for a few months. I’ve tried manually removing but it comes back in short order. I’ve attempted to treat with Vibrant once a week for about 2 months but haven’t had much success. I’m starting to have so much algae that it seem to clogs my CPR overflow about every other day (I now see why people don’t like these overflows) and changes the flow of the tank. The clogging issue is getting so bad it’s causing my ATO to dump fresh water that isn’t needed and changes my salinity. My clean up crew is not the best because I have a trigger that loves to eat just about everything. I know nutrients could be high so I’ve started only feeding every other day. Any other suggestions on tackling this issue would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A few questions first.

Are you using RoDi?
What are your parameters?
How old is the tank?

Lastly have some tank pics using white lighting?

Overdosing carbon until the whiter slime showed up best I've found. It's going to drop nitrates and phosphates. Can add both back if it strips either too far but I find it easier to add to zero than strip necessary to maintain above zero. Most likely it's going to be nitrates that will bottom out but have seen phosphates get very low doing this.

Blackout periods were useless. Stopped dosing once the white slime showed and within days that was gone too. After that determining a maintenance dose of carbon might help. Rather take a natural approach where available. Last I'm adding is an algaecide such as Vibrant and especially of finding out it seems to be Algaefix from API which is considerably cheaper and truthful about it's purpose and composition.

Personally I don't believe in starving the fish to fight algae.
What are the nitrate and phosphate levels?
How do you export nutrients (refugium, water changes, dosing, etc...)?

I do use RoDi.

Ammonia and nitrite are both zero. I use sera currently so all my measurements are mg/l going forward. I have a high nitrate level of 50mg/l. Phosphate is .5mg/l. Can provide any other parameters necessary.

This tank is about 11 months old, but was started from live rock from LFS to get it jump started.

Picture attached with white light. Let me know if different pictures are needed.

Nitrate is at 50mg/l. Phosphate is at .5mg/l.

Currently I export nutrients through a protein skimmer (if that counts) and a biweekly water change of around 15%.
