This stuff is taking over my Zoa frag tank AGAIN. I took the whole tank down once and cleaned the frag disks with a toothbrush and replaced the eggcrate. Now it is back with a vengance. Does anyone know what it is and how to get rid of it. It is not cyanobacteria it is leafy sort of like lettuce. Any help would be appreciated.

Elevate your eggcrate. Add some GFO. Along with the usual CUC and possibly a small tang

If any of the above remedies are not possible you may need to resort to removing the infested rock and scrub it clean. Red Leaf algae is a type of Macro algae. Fox Face will eat is also as will Urchins.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
