Chaeto in a filter cup instead of a separate chamber (in sump)

I recently got myself a waterbox 130.
Unfortunately the sump doesnt have a "separate" chamber for chaeto.

My LFS suggested buying some egg crate and making a separate chamber in the same box as the protein skimmer. Sounds cool but can I just use one of the two filter sock/cup slots and throw some chaeto in there?

Your chaeto is gonna need light

Yup, Ive got my old chaeto light in a box somewhere, But to be extra safe (and neat) I got myself a Kessil A80 tuna grow light .

I recently swapped a sock for one of these, that I am now growing chaeto in. Not sure how effective it will be just due to the size but we’ll see
