I'm cutting a 31.45% solution of muratic acid to .034% to replace some Hanna HCl cleaning solution I ran out of. The bottle I'm filling is 500ml. I think I'm using the right formula, but chemistry and algebra was a loooong time ago. . .

C1*V1=C2*V2, where C = concentration and V = volume

.3145*V1=.00034*500

V1=.17/.3145

V1=.54ml

My math is very dusty. I'm sure I could figure it out, but it would take some time. So math wizards let's help here!

Is this the Reef Chemistry forum or what? Where's all the math eggheads at? :p

I'm pretty sure it's the right way to calculate it. If it doesn't clean anything I'll know I did it wrong. :D Thanks anyway!

In general, we do not like checking people's math. Way too much risk of a simple typo damaging someone's tank. That's why most of the time we answer with calculator links.

Why are we calculating a cleaning solution? 1 part muriatic acid diluted in 10 parts fresh water is perfect for cleaning pumps and such.

Forced into it, diluting 31.4% HCl to 0.034% is 1 part acid in 922 parts fresh water.
