I did 2 tests. this morning. 2 different test kits
api
Ph 8.2
ammonia - 0
didn't do nitrites or nitrates with this to many false reading with API.
I got some Marineland test strips
PH 8.4
AK 180
NO2 - 30
NO3 - 80
ammonia - 0
I got a salifert nitrate for NO3 that came out to 100 on card then 100 then divide it by 10 so reading is 10 ppm. a lot better than 160+ on API. so I'm getting there. API for NO2 and NO3 gives me false readings. so I know longer use it for NO@ and NO3 tests.

I'm not feeding the tank with ammonia or shrimp. and not ghost feeding for today. gonna let NO2 and NO3 go down for 24 hours and see where I'm at. I am cycling 2 ppm within 10 hour period. dosing when I right before I leave for work and coming back after work and testing every mon - Friday. and it reads 0 on ammonia when testing. just letting nitrites get down to 0 and should be ready for the first 2 to 3 fish and then wait till june or july and add a 1 or 2 more. don't want to stress the tank. taking it slowly.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
