Sorry. I'm not sure what you mean about the parasites keeping the fish alive?

What can happen is that the parasites, in really large numbers, can drop off the fish all at once when you dose them with prazi. That leaves hundreds/thousands of holes in their skin and the fish bleeds out. That happens right after treatment though (like 12 to 24 hours). Also, there is no way around that, because the fish will die if you DON'T treat them.
