Do I need a cepex valve?

When I plumb my tank, will I want a cepex valve on my drain? Will be running bean animal style.

It's to adjust the flow of the full siphon. It is what allows the bean style overflow to be so quiet.

The cepex is a great ball valve, I've got a few in my plumbing.
But for fine control of a Bean Animal drain I would use a Spears gate valve.

Second this. I used cepex on my herbie set up and find it difficult to fine tune the drain. But, it's what I installed and I'm not changing it now. Were I to do it over, I'd go Spears gate valve on the drain.

A valve on the return line is optional.
I've got a true union Cepex ball valve on my return as the last item in line so that I can remove my manifold if I want to
re-plumb or clean something out.

It's slip x slip. I wish I'd done thread x thread instead, but oh well next time.

I have a cepex valve on my return as well as my main drain. Ideally, you want to run your return wide open, unless it's oversized for future expansion, then you'll probably want a valve to turn it down. In my case, I've ended up shutting down the return a little bit to help fine tune the herbie. Between the two valves I've got it pretty good I think.

You could go with the cepex on the return line I think, requires less fine tuning. Both my cepex valves are thread/thread so they can be removed/cleaned if needed.

Actually I don't think I'll need one on my return, i have the vectra L1. Which should I use, thread x thread or slip x slip?

I've got three 1/2 inch spears gate valves on my manifold for fine tuning the flow through reactors.
I ended up not needing to run any reactors yet.

Is your plumbing only 1/2" then, or can you just throw 1/2" on 1 1/2"?

I used reducing Ts to connect the valves.

If I remember correctly the return pipe is 3/4" so 3/4 x 1/2 x 3/4 reducing Ts.

Then that will restrict flow right? Would it be best to just keep the same size plumbing?

I think most reactors running off a manifold would use 1/2" plumbing.

But then again there is a million ways to skin this cat.

Yeah I have to check on YouTube, very new to plumbing. What does a manifold mean?
