Does algae use iodine? Or is it for some other purpose?

I dose some iron because I know it is used by plants and algae, but it doesn't take much at all. And many/most of the salt mixes we use don't tend to have iron in their mix. Randy Holmes Farley in the chemistry forum has talked about this.

It depends on what your goals are. If you want to grow macro algae there are elements it requires that we do not normally have in large enough quantities our tanks. If you just want it as a nutrient export then I would not dose anything to make it grow.
