I dosed my pH as I have been having issues keeping it above 8.0. It was reading 7.8 and now is reading 8.4. However, after dosing, my mushroom just shrived up and closed up on itself. It was fine 15 minutes ago and everyone in the tank (sexy shrimp, hermits, clowns, etc.) are doing just fine. Did I just murder the shroom??:anxious-face-with-sweat:

If you added it directly to tank, it likely had adverse effect on it. Mushrooms are however resilient and should bounce back. I dont favor these buffers but in the future, dilute it or add to sump

Anything that "buffers" ph will raise the alkalinity as well.
When you brought your ph from 7.8 to 8.4 that was probably a massive alkalinity spike you just threw at the mushroom. If there are any other corals in the tank are they doing alright still?

Hi! Yes everyone is now doing well. My green star polyp and snake coral is doing well and my mushroom bounced back :smiling-face-with-sunglasses:

DO YOU USE A PAR METER WHEN PLACING NEW CORAL IN YOUR TANK?

  • Yes! I think it's important for the longterm health/growth of my coral.

  • Yes, but I don't find that it is necessary all the time.
