Hey all,

Investigating dosing AAs. I DO NOT use a skimmer on my tank. I read mostly people thay dose usually all say they turn skimmer off for a while and back on after --- im assuming to prevent elevated nutrients.

Does anyone else dose AA that also don't have a skimmer. Im aware feeding roids and fish food would also increase nutrients...but just playing it safe. Id prolly start with half the dose or half a half dose at the beginning, if I did start.

Im also tapering off my Vibrant. Had a GHA issue that I have managed to get a little under control. If that makes a difference.

Current Params:

Nitrate 10
Phos - 0 - 0.03 (hard to tell) salifert
Dkh -- 8.3
1.025
Temp 78
Ca 450

You should be ok as long as you keep an eye on parameters and do your water changes. AA's are such small molecules that a lot of them dissolve in the water column and aren't picked up by the skimmer once dissolved. People most likely turn off the skimmer to make sure they dissolve before getting exported so they aren't wasted. Def agree with starting with a smaller dose to not mess up the chemistry too much. Good luck!
