Hi all,

So as you know they claim their product rises Ph without changing Alk or Ca.
This makes little sense, but I decided to try in a very controlled environment.
Background: I live in Florida, it's the summer, windows are closed. CO2 levels in the house should be high.
My Alkalinity range is very stable without dosing, I let it drift from 9.8 to 9.2 over a few weeks. My Ph dropped from a max at 8.2 to a max at 8.05. That is with running a CO2 scrubber, reverse lighting on an algae reactor.
Interestingly my problem is not that the Ph drops at night, it's that it doesn't increase during the day.
I've had ok ionic balance, but high calcium too.

My alkalinity being already borderline high, my goal was to bring the ph back up by 0.1.
(I know don't chase the Ph)
So I waited mid day, and added maybe 25% of the recommended dose of BALANCE.
Here is the trident graph, everything is calibrated.

Immediately after adding the product, Ph rose from 8.04 to 8.17... Guess what happened to the alkalinity ? Of course it raised... from 9.6 to 9.93.
So basically a 0.1 ph increase for a 0.3 alkalinity increase.
Whats worse... the Ph already started dropping
I'll give them that: calcium did not change... from 528 to 526, which could be accuracy of the trident.

Conclusion: Seachem balance doesn't work as advertised. Alkalinity does increase with ph, significantly

Correct. This is a crappily designed/described product that is just a high pH alkalinity supplement.

There is no possible way to have a supplement that raises pH and not alkalinity.
