Hi.

I returned home from vacation to find a clown trigger with total loss of both undulating fins and it's tail fin. The fish showed some signs of fin damage when I left - but, this is not what I expected to find upon my return. I have seen the fish get knocked around by a tang here and there, but, no REAL aggression and the fish was out and proud at every meal.

At this point, I am wondering only if the fins can come back. I have read repeatedly that once down to the body, they do not grow back. I have seen sickly yellow tangs in shops that never seem to get better. I am not sure this fish can get along in my tank if it's fins do not come back.

Fish is in hospital tank btw. All other fish in display are healthy. There is some scale loss as well and I am sure the fish is sick with a bacterial infection. Cipro dip on the way into hospital tank, Furan 2 there, and I will find out if the fish still has an appetite in the next 24 hours.

I can't quite get a good pic of the tail... but it looks the same as the two undulating fins.

This is a healthy one... they don't have a lot of fin to start with compared to other triggers.....

Going to need a better pic under white lighting to clearly show the tail to determine if its bacterial or aggression

Nitrates do run high in my display tank (20 on the API test, 40 on the ICP tests), ammonia zero, water is clear. Corals and inverts all thriving.

Sure. This shows the tail, the undulating fins, and relative sparing of the pectoral fins.

This is an infected tail and will require treatment which best would be Seachem Kanaplex in a quarantine setting with added oxygen via air stone and monitor ammonia levels during treatment.
Is fish eating and breathing normal ?
What other tankmates in the tank with it?

Underway. Starting with nitrofurazone - because it’s in my cabinet- but will consider covering fungus too with kanaplex. Tank mates are numerous tangs - most likely aggressors- a motherly blue thoat tigger - b$**** pixie hawk, clownfish, damsels, and a big gold flake angel that takes no crap.
