I used plenum method over 20 years ago, but quickly changed to Berlin method, so cannot comment on it.
I have a different take on live rock and I think that maricultured live rock like one from Tampa Bay is gaining popularity. With a new understanding of reef biom more and more reefers are utilizing it.
I am personally impressed how my newly established, 3 months old tank looks like, thanks to Live Rock.
