I think people choosing this option are paying for the form factor. A $20 clip on fan would do the job just fine.

You do not have to purchase the controller. It allows the fan to be variable speed using 0-10 volt input. Without out you can plug it into an outlet and just be on/off.

Bought the GHL 4 unit fan and am deeply disappointed. The fans are not strong enough to cool the tank. Also, very limited on its angle options for positioning the fans. Cannot return because GHL won’t take them back. Going back to my cheap knock-off fan.
