So when I started the hobby a few years agoI had no idea what I was doing. still not much better now.
I used to keep cichlids so the rocks I used then weighed a lot more and I didn't need to worry about placement as much

I'm debating rearranging my tank. The live rock I have is just plonked ontop of each other no real structure to it .I had an accident the other day whilst trying to remove a nem, and had a couple of rocks fall.

I have a fair amount of rock and some pretty large chunks.
I'm lucky as such that I don't have much coral growth so removing coral won't be an issue.
I don't have a large amount of sand so that won't cause a spike.
The tank had been running 3 years.
If I was to rescape how likely am I to cause the tank problems as is bacteria die off nutrient spikes
I would be able to put all the rock work into containers filled with tank water and heat it
I wouldn't need to have them out for days just a few hours

Is it more hassle than it's worth to do it or should I just leave it as Is and milliput my rock pile together

As long as you keep the rock wet and heated you should be fine. You may want to get one of those black rubbermaid livestock troughs for all your rock and throw on a wavemaker or two at the same time.
