I have a 1650 gph wavemaker, that I direct towards top for surface agitation too but that thing blows my clowns around, they love it but would it be to much flow to add more? Also I just noticed this white substance on my rock this morning that wasn’t there a day ago

Cyano. How old is your tank? It occurs commonly in almost every reef tank at some point, and is caused or encouraged by a number of reasons including the available nutrients and specially phosphates and iron in this case. Also Low flow/dead zone. Are you using RODI water or tap? Don't be discouraged if it grows back quickly after you remove as it is extremely efficient at consuming nutrients... but the positive note is that it should die off once nutrients are stabilized.

@pathot984 What about that white spot? My tank is roughly 4 years old, but about 7 months I had to break down the tank since I moved into a new apartment. I don’t make my own water right now, I used to but I don’t have an ro/di currently so I use Natures Ocean Nutri-seawater that my lfs sells. My water parameters that I can test read:
Temp- 78
Salinity- 1.025
Nitrite- 0
Nitrate- 40 (I know this is a little high but my gf was over feeding the tank without me knowing, doing weekly 10% water changes to get down)
Ph- 8.0
Ammonia- 0
Calcium- Unknown
Magnesium-Unknown
Alkalinity- Unknown
I am currently looking around for test kits for the unknown parameters and I’ve heard red seas and salifert test kits are two good ones, just haven’t decided which one.

Okay thanks for the info. You really need to know test all parameters including phosphate, calcium, magnesium, and alkalinity. Red Sea and Hanna checkers are what I recommend.

I can’t really make out the white spot on the rock from the photo. Sorry about that.

Nitrates are a bit high but need to look and it in conjunction with phosphates.

Not sure of the quality of water you’re purchasing... technically that could be partial cause. To be clear you just started using it when you relocated your aquarium right?
