Hey fellow reefers.

Let me start of by saying I’ve made a few mistakes getting into this hobby as I’m sure most have, that the regret is starting to catch up to me.

So right now I have a 75 gallon reef tank using the Aqueon Aquarium that is not sump ready obviously.

Right now I am using a Penn Plax Cascade Cannister filter in the mean time until my 250 gal Red Sea tank comes in October (cant wait). My question is how often should I clean this filter. Being a reef tank i know I have to clean it more frequently, to keep nitrate, nitrite and ammonia in check. But how often? And any specific recommendations. How often should I change the sponges, the carbon media, etc? any info would help. I want to make sure my fish stay healthy until their new home is ready.

I have 1 Gem Tang, 1 Hippo Tang, 1 Flame Hawkfish, 1 Mandarin, 1 Lawnmower, 1 social wrasse, 2 clown fish, 4 Cardinals, and 4 Fire Gobbys. And 2 bubble tip anemones.

you sure that's a gem tang? looks to me like a powder blue.

also, to answer your question i would first start by either doing it bi-weekly, or weekly depending how quickly your nutrients rise.

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
