I'm curious if rubbing alcohol or anything can clean threaded fittings of thread-sealant/pipe-dope/thread-compound etc? In my case I am specifically wondering about Rectorseal T plus 2.

Wiping works, yes, but it doesn't work well.

Any advice is appreciated!

I ended up using a small flathead screwdriver to get the old sealant totally out of the PVC threads when I got a new pump. Just follow the threads with screwdriver tip and wipe away the sealant as it comes out of the threads. Then I did use a small amount rubbing alcohol on a throw away rag/towel to get all residual off.

brass wire brush ( small tooth brush size from harbor freight ) and a rag and rubbing alcohol is what I would try.
