Thank you R2R! Couldn’t have done this without the help from so many of you. Basically, the corals in my main display have continued to overgrow and I found myself needing more space to frag and somewhere to move the overgrowth. Along the way I found myself mesmerized by zoas and other LPS I saw at Frag shows (RAP) and more so, the way you could see them in Frag tanks. I got the itch sorta speak.

At my last RAP I casually complimented a vendor’s 30 gallon Deep Blue rimless loaded with his frags to sell. He said if I like it, he’ll make an offer I can’t refuse and that was it, I got my first Frag tank (minus his corals).

To keep my cost down, I decided I was going to plumb this new tank in line with my existing 90G DT ad use the same sump since it was big enough to use (thankfully). I simply cut a hole in the wall behind my DT and ran the pipes through the wall into the room behind it.

Now, time for the stand!

That lead me back to here where I learned all about stand building from scratch and everything you need to set up a Frag system. Special thanks to @dantimdad and @Warer Dog , They both have great build threads I recommend.

I went with the familiar template many others here have used.

After deciding on measurements, it was off to Home Depot.

I decided to get a Kreg Jig which I wanted for other projects too. I don’t have a fancy wood work garage, just a tailgate and rather old patio table.

After a few days is cutting and sanding after work, it’s finally getting real.

Some Killz primer and a few top coats of Behrs interior/exterior Hi-gloss enamel.

I picked up some used lights and bought a new MP-10QD. I’m running 4 T5’s (B,B,B,C+) and ReefBright XHO (still want one more of these).

To help offset the cost I took sole corals up to my LFS which he kicks me store credit for. That took care of the 40 gallons of SW and some plumbing parts.

Now it was time to design the frag rack. I was inspired by all the pokey acrylic rods all the vendors used and new that was going to be an addition just for some color and kinda fun to build with. I designed the rack to reduce flow for my shroom and also have enough flow for some acros.
