Mullers Butterflyfish / Chelmon mulleri
SCIENTIFIC NAME –Chelmon mulleri
COMMON NAME – Mullers Butterflyfish
SIZE – 7" (18 cm)
MIN. AQUARIUM SIZE – 75 US Gal. (284 L)
FOODS AND FEEDING– The Mullers Butterflyfish consumes fresh clam on the half shell, black mussle on the half shell, sessile invertebrates on live rock, live brine shrimp, and mysid shrimp.
REEF COMPATIBILITY – With caution; feeds heavily on tubeworm appendages, small crustaceans, and may nip at some soft corals.
CAPTIVE CARE –The Mullers Butterflyfish can be kept singly or in pairs if introduced at the same time. This species prefers a tank with ample swimming space, plenty of hiding places, adequate water movement to simulate a turbid environment, and temperatures in the range of 70-81 F (21-27C). It will eat glass worms, the heads of feather dusters, and will decimate polychaete worm populations. Care should be exercised when purchasing this species to ensure that it is feeding and does not have a pinched abdomen. The Mullers Butterflyfish acclimates well to captivity and is considered the most hardy of the Chelmon genera.
